Where I see myself in 10 years by Richelle - March 2025 Scholarship Essay
Ten years from now, I see myself as a licensed physical therapist working for a reputable healthcare organization such as Henry Ford Hospital System (Detroit, MI.), specializing in orthopedics. My passion lies in helping individuals recover from injuries, improve mobility, and regain strength, particularly athletes ranging from youth to professional levels. Being a colelgiate track and field athlete in combination with my interest in healthcare has shaped my specific career interest. I want to be in a position where I can make a meaningful impact on the lives of my patients by providing high-quality rehabilitation care and helping them return to peak performance, just like how the ahtletic trainers and physcial therapist who have rehabilitated me from injury. Additionally, I envision myself starting a family and balancing a fulfilling career with a healthy home life.
My education has been instrumental in preparing me for this career path. Through my degree path in Exercise and Sport Science, specifically kinesiology-based courses, I have gained a strong foundation in understanding human movement, injury prevention, and recovery techniques. This knowledge will enable me to develop effective treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique condition. Furthermore, my academic experiences have strengthened my problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and ability to communicate complex concepts in a simple and supportive manner — all of which are essential in physical therapy.
Beyond technical knowledge, my education has taught me the importance of empathy, adaptability, and perseverance. I have learned how to work through challenges, manage my time effectively, and stay dedicated to long-term goals — qualities that will help me thrive in my career and maintain a balance between work and family life. I also intend to stay engaged in continuing education and professional development to ensure I provide my patients with the most up-to-date treatment methods.
In ten years, I hope to not only be recognized as a skilled and compassionate physical therapist but also as a trusted advocate for my patients' recovery journeys. I aspire to build strong relationships with athletes and individuals recovering from orthopedic injuries, ensuring they feel supported every step of the way. Working within a prestigious healthcare system like Henry Ford will provide me with the resources, mentorship, and exposure to diverse cases that will contribute to my professional growth. Ultimately, I believe my education has given me the tools to turn this vision into a reality, and I am excited about the positive impact I can make in the field of physical therapy.
