As a college student, studying is a huge part of my life. It is something that must be worked into my weekly routine in order to stay ahead. At this point in my life, I have experimented with many different study techniques, but which one produces the best results?
After many nights in the library, I have come to the conclusion that making a Quizlet out of the course material is the best way to spend your time studying. This produces the best results for many reasons. The first and most important reason why this leads to success is because it is fun. When you sit there and re-read notes over and over the mind naturally tends to wander to anything and everything else. However, when the course information is entered into games, it becomes a fun and interesting task that one can actually enjoy. This keeps the student concentrated on the task at hand, and therefor retaining much more knowledge on the subject.
Quizlet study sets can also be shared with classmates, which can appeal to a student’s competitive side. Each game on the site keeps track of high scores; the more you know, the better the score. So for anyone that is competitive like me, this is just one more aspect that keeps the student locked in and focused on the material.
There are also key factors to studying outside of the method itself that can play just as big of a role in the retention of the material. The environment in which one chooses to study can greatly effect the results of the session. I have learned that studying with friends may be fun, but it greatly decreases the effectiveness of the studying. The ideal environment to study in, is a quite, secluded place, where one can be alone with their thoughts and focus solely on the material. To accompany that, I’ve learned that turning your phone off can make a world of difference in regards to concentration levels.
In conclusion, in order to get the most out of your study hours, make a Quizlet and find yourself a serene location where you can be alone with your thoughts.
