Why I want to go to college by Reyna - November 2023 Scholarship Essay
College is something many people would say is a necessary evil and that it’s essential to get any job. Others would like to go to college to enjoy a college lifestyle. I would like to go to college to learn how to help people by completing a pre-med degree, medical school, and residency to become a doctor.
Deep down, I have always wanted to help people. Many people will say that I am a bad tutor, and others will say that I am a fantastic tutor. To the people who I was not the greatest tutor to, it’s because I found difficulty helping someone who did not want to be helped; they did not want to learn or were struggling because they were not trying. To the people who I was a great tutor towards, they genuinely did not understand the content and I was able to aid them into comprehension. I have compassion and genuinely want to help people that are trying and many people I have met, do not make much effort, so they will conclude that I am unsympathetic towards their plights.
I can come off as callous until I encourage people to get to where they need to be. There is an internal satisfaction I get when I can finally convince someone to start making an active effort and it makes me so happy to see them finally succeed. I would love to do this for my professional job, and I know I can if I become a doctor. If I become a doctor, I will have the ability to help people everyday. I can not only help patients, but I can encourage them to keep trying and to do that, I will need to take the long and arduous path to become a doctor.
The journey to being a doctor is a great deal of work. Yet, I am confident that I can complete it. Even if it means that I have to go through college twice and even if it means that it will take several years of my young adult life. It will pay off to help others live a little longer than they might have before, a few years of hard work to make so many other people’s lives better.
College is difficult, but it can be fun and I will try to balance it out as best I can. But, if that fails, then I will still power through because I want to be like my own doctors. My own doctors have helped me so much and inspired me time and again. They have shown me how to help people but not enable them to make bad choices. In simple terms, I want to go to college to learn not only to help people, but guide them on a better path in life.
