I come from a very different world. My home country of Iraq, where different rules, beliefs, and aspects than in the United States, has few rights for women who are required to marry at a young age to become housewives (not allowed to work, drive, or play sports). I grew up to the teachings and beliefs of my parents and my former society. However, when I came to the United States, I saw women have freedom. I wanted to have the same freedom and do different things: play sports, not get married, and know how to drive. The U.S. gave me these opportunities to which I am thankful for.
I never thought I would one day be an athlete. When I entered high school, I learned to become one through soccer. My brother introduced me to this game I fell in love with. I took the most advantage I could take in High School. Taking some of the lessons from Soccer including how to believe in myself.
I took as many opportunities in my freshman year, but was challenged with English 1C/2C, while in ELD at the same time. Doing all of my assignments on time worked, and I did well. I joined TRiO (Talent Search) to start getting prepared for college. In 10th grade I was challenged with Algebra 2, but I attended Night Library tutoring to get help with homework. I also joined FRC (a high school career preparation program), it helped me understand what to put in my resume. I was challenged with APUSH during my junior year. I came to Saturday school, and I took practice tests to help me prepare for tests. I also did Care Club (community service) which taught us how to take care of the environment and care about the people around the world. During my senior year, I was challenged with English 7C/8C. I retook tests to raise my grade.
I always wanted to be a pediatric doctor. The reason why I choose the medical profession is because I can help people. I would want to be a pediatric doctor because I love working with children, and I would want to keep them healthy. A good pediatrician can catch health problems early that might have a devastating affect on a child if left untreated. I can also teach children some healthy habits that will serve them well for the rest of their life.
My journey in life taught me several things, such as to never give up, accept challenges, learn lessons, and to move on in life. My journey also taught me to be helpful because a lot of people helped me become the person I am today. I also support people that have big dreams. Therefore, I am willing to support, help, and sacrifice my time, money, and personal skills in order to make make them feel better and pursue their dreams.
