Leaders in the Rough by Reese - February 2020 Scholarship Essay
Leaders are not defined by boy or girl, by age or race or religion. Leaders are not popped from a mold and placed in positions of power. Leaders are people that started as kids who got the opportunity to be nurtured in a fashion that set them up for success. This notion is what I would kindle when starting my own non-profit. I would create a service that provides counseling and guidance to adolescence in order to maximize their possibility of success.
Circumstances like poverty and poor education are impactors that youth have no control over yet their entire foundation hinges on its stability. By creating a non-profit that can provide community outreach, not only youth will benefit by receiving services such as tutoring and therapy, their parents and guardians hold less worry over the well-being of their child which will, in turn, give them the chance to cultivate a better life for themselves. The future will depend on the leaders that create it and if we do not protect the individuality of our future leaders, the well-being of mankind will slowly perish. Answers that we, as humankind, have been looking for very well could be hidden in these young minds but those cures to diseases and theories of intelligence cannot be accessed until the proper excavation tools are given to those minds in order to unlock their potential.
The importance of a non-profit that would target benefits to adolescents going through strife goes beyond just the kid receiving direct help. This will create a spiral effect that will spread to the parents and then seep into the community. Strong positive influences will rejuvenate impoverished areas and provide psychological peace of mind to everyone reaching out for help. Children are my passion and creating well-rounded leaders from them would be my non-profit.
