Believe in Yourself by Reese - May 2014 Scholarship Essay

My English teacher is an amazing guy and everyday I left his class inspired. Each day he had a different quote that we would interpret, and he would explain his thoughts on it. One morning he chose a quote that reminded him of when he was younger and he began to tell stories of his adventures. He told us that he used to be in a band and traveled around the world, but that was not what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. One day he stopped touring and went back to school to become a teacher. He told us that it is never too late to follow your dreams and believe in yourself, and just because you are not where you want to be does not mean that you cannot get there in the future.

That really inspired me because sometimes I felt as if I was stuck and could not change how things would turn out. After hearing his advice, I realized that I can change whenever I want to. If I am struggling in a class, I can go to the teacher and seek extra help and set aside study time to improve. Also, if I feel my workload is too much to handle I can spread out my work and get organized so that I can focus on all subjects and do the very best that I can in school. I think its important to believe in yourself and try new things and take on new challenges. If it is too much for you or you do not like to do it anymore, you can always change what you are doing but it is important to know what you are capable of accomplishing. If you believe that you can do great things, you will do great things.
