The Importance of a Teacher's Support by Reegan - November 2020 Scholarship Essay
What aspect of my education am I most thankful for? There are many facets of my education that I am eternally grateful for but the biggest I think is the support and encouragement I have received from my teachers.
I have lived in Quinter Kansas for the majority of my life. With the close-knit nature of this community, I have gotten the chance to know my teachers personally for many years, and for them to truly know and understand me in return. During my junior year of high school, I was going through an extremely difficult familial situation. I was forced into a situation where I had to live primarily on my own for almost four months due to the resurgence of my father’s cancer. However, it was during this time period that I really saw the dedication my teachers show toward their students. Every single day my teachers would check in with me, asking how I was doing, if I had any new information concerning my father, and if things were going well etcetera. I really noticed how much they care for each and every one of us, as well as how much they want to push us to succeed. I was in desperate need to have people in my corner during those tough times and everywhere I turned one of my teachers was offering to help whether it be special deadlines on assignments, days where I could come in before and after school to ask questions and receive help, or even just a safe space to come if everything got too overwhelming. Without their support, I would not have been able to maintain my reputation as a straight-A student while also taking care of the important jobs around the house such as cleaning, looking after the pets, and paying the bills. As well as extracurricular activities such as cheerleading.
In conclusion, the aspect of my education that I am the most thankful for is the diligence and support of my teachers. They helped me see the light when I was in a very dark place. They saw my situation for what it was and sympathized with me without treating me as if I were a piece of glass ready to shatter with one wrong move.
