Education is Independence by Rebekah - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

By the time someone is a high-school graduate, they have spent twelve years in classes, twelve years working on papers, planning for college, writing scholarship essays, and wondering what the point of all this time is. Although that question has come across all of our minds multiple times, I think I have finally found the answer. All of the writing, planning, sleepless study nights, and education has prepared me to be independent.

Someone with an education has the tools to provide for themselves, make informed decisions, and live on their own without being dependent on a friend, family member, or society at large. It is fact that on average, the more education someone has, the more money they make. In this day and age, being financially stable is the difference from living in a house you own, and living on your friend's house. Being educated means that instead of following blindly when it comes to making decisions, you can form your own rational opinions and make decisions based on your experiences, feelings, and what you have learned about the subject. The Uneducated tend to follow the crowd instead of leading.

To me, education is very important. It is hard to live in this age without an education. As someone that wants to be independent, live on my own, and take care of myself, I see getting a higher education as the only way for me to do that. Education is security, leadership, and independence.
