Every Student. Everyday. by Rebekah - July 2014 Scholarship Essay
Teachers are multifarious across classrooms, but my favorite judicious teacher would be Mrs. Binnicker. She teaches the Honors Global Humanities class, College Prep English, and works many hours overtime to ensure her school is excelling. Complications are imminent and she can never anticipate learning barriers, but she never gives up on a student.
Global Humanities is a freshman and sophomore class in which I had the privilege of occupying. Throughout both years, Mrs. Binnicker always smiled through class and was willing to work one on one during her lunch, free periods and after school. During class, I was often shy and never really answered complicated questions. More often, Mrs. Binnicker caught me writing in a personal notebook as opposed to typing class responses. The first week of school, she talked to me about my classroom disposition and I did not know how to respond. I remained silent. She later took an interest in me because I was adept to deeper level thinking. Often I had commends of excellence and abstract knowledge written in the margins of my essays. Again, she spoke to me after class and I divulged that I was often distracted my issues outside school. Mrs. Binnicker talked with me, and helped me through trials and tribulations. I was becoming less shy in the classroom because she would pry at me to answer questions with an abstract view. I never turned down her challenges after that.
In coming to know Mrs. Binnicker, I realized she also faces trials and tribulations, but she does not allow them to affect her teaching abilities. Her affluent optimism let me understand that my problems did not need to affect my learning environment. Her classroom in particular was always open to me as a safe haven, or simply a serene home away from home. She helped me understand how to cope with complicated adversities, and taught me how to smile again.
I was unsure about becoming a teacher until I met Mrs. Binnicker. She is a strong, dependable, optimistic, walking cliché but she knows how to reach every student, everyday.
