Lifeskills and Leadership: The Perfect Opportunity for Students by Rebecca - January 2023 Scholarship Essay

Extracurriculars and electives are excellent ways for students to enjoy classes and activities in and out of school. However, which elective/extracurricular within the list should students be required to take to? Many could be helpful for students, like college applications, career goals, and life.
It depends on the path a student wants to take, whether going to college or entering the workforce. Everyone knows a school is a place that is supposed to prepare students for life, so elective or extra activities should be fun and have the same objective as a school.
The elective I think would be great to prepare students for life is life skills. That elective prepares students for multiple everyday life skills. Skills that include problem-solving and planning. Planning and problem-solving could be under various aspects of career, money, or simply life. It is an excellent class for students to learn the necessities of everyday life, so it should be required for students to take. Some schools likely do not need it because students can take many other elective paths. Others may still need the elective. However, it should be required because that elective precisely serves the school's primary objective.
Other extra activities and electives could also be helpful to all students, especially if students are going to take the college route. More leadership roles would be significant for students that want to apply to colleges because, from personal experience, they ask about what leadership they have experienced during the four years of high school, so that leadership would be outstanding for students, not only for college but for life as well. Many opportunities and careers require leadership skills, whether on projects or leading a whole area of people.
Both life skills and leadership roles are great electives and extracurriculars that should be required for students to graduate. Of the two, life skills would be more significant to need students simply because it prepares students for daily life and meets the school's primary objective. That does not say that leadership is not beneficial because it is, and it is an excellent skill for everyone to have; however, life skills should be the primary elective required first. Everyone needs life skills to be able to live daily life.
