A Nobel Prize Winner by Rebecca - December 2018 Scholarship Essay
The Nobel Prize is an international prize awarded to outstanding work in physics, chemistry, medicine or physiology, literature, economics and the promotion of peace. The first ever awarded Nobel Prize was in 1901 and they are always held in December 10 due to Alfred Nobel’s death who was also a scientist and inventor. To be considered for this annual awarded prize our recipients must show honesty and perseverance in their work, discoveries and in society.
If we go ahead and look at some of the past winners for The Nobel Prize, we can see their many achievements and how those have helped our community. To achieve all these, they have had to be persistent with their scientific discoveries and projects. For example, Albert Einstein a well-known scientist was awarded The Nobel Prize in 1921 for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect and received this in 1922. Also, Otto Hahn (1944) who discovered nuclear fission, this process can create electricity in such a potent way that it can produce power. Both huge scientists and have contributed in such a huge way to our society and have been persistent in order to achieve these discoveries to better our day to day lives and help humanity advance in science.
As we all know medicine is a huge part in our lives, when we’re sick, when our head hurts or even a sprained ankle. Scientists take such a huge part in that we can take medicine and we can feel better in a few days. James P. Allison and Tasuku Honjo discovered cancer therapy by the inhibition of negative immune regulation and have given many little kids and adults the hope of overcoming this disease and the hope of living longer than expected. As well as their families, giving them the joy of enjoying more time with their loved ones. Examples of two men who have shown persistency and have been honest about both of their shared contribution to this discovery for the well-being of others.
We don’t have to go above and beyond just attempt to do more than others, achieve more and do it the right way. All of them did their own projects and did it through their own time and their own dedication in order to achieve such things and they have helped thousands of people through this.
