Growing to teach by Rebecca - June 2013 Scholarship Essay
Going back to college means that I am finally pursuing the dream that I have had since I was 15 years old. Its been 20 years waiting for my chance to pursue my dream and I am ready. Ready for college, ready for my future and ready to be the best me that I can be. Attending college as an adult will have a major influence on my 3 children. I have always told them that no one should ever stop learning. Now, by going back to school I don't just get to say it, I get to show them. College means that I am reaching for my dreams. College means that I am taking classes to be a happier person by being the teacher that I have always wanted to be. Attending college means personal security. My spouse it 11 years older than I am and is supportive of my dreams and asperations because he knows that I will be happy and secure in my future. I get to go back to school and be the teacher I have always wanted to be. Attending school means that I get to teach young adults that if you can read, you can learn anything. Books can take you anywhere you want to go in the blink of an eye. I am going back to college so that I can help kids realize that writing, even if no one but you ever reads it, can be such a wonderful, creative, non-destructive way to express yourself. Attending college means that I get to share my love of literature and writing with influenceable young minds. Going back to college means growing as a person and learning how to teach others to grow as well.
