To be a Vetinarian or not to be! by Reagan - March 2025 Scholarship Essay

In ten years, I see myself working with animals and living a stable life. For the first half of my senior year, I planned to be a veterinarian and attend OSU for Animal Science. Since I have two months left of my senior year, I have changed my major to Zoology and have been accepted at OSU. I believe being a veterinarian is still in the cards, but I have come to think that being a Zoologist would be a better occupation. I can see myself being a zoologist in Africa on the savanna. Studying exotic animals is a dream of mine, and understanding their species on a different level is highly encouraging to become a zoologist. I would get bored and depressed with cats and dogs and dealing with their owners, but I still feel like I would enjoy it nonetheless. OSU has an amazing vet program that would push me farther in life and build character. I don’t want to be super detailed oriented about my future because I don’t want to feel pressured about my decisions. Having a done deal plan can be stressful, especially if what happens doesn’t match my plan. Looking into the future, I know for a fact that I want to do something with animals, even if that means I’m neutering dogs or studying lions and their behaviors. As long as I’m making good money and living my life passionately I will be happy with whatever happens.
