And the Life Time Teaching Award goes to? by Razeen - March 2013 Scholarship Essay

I spent hours thinking about whom could write about that has taught me the most. I began to think of my kindergarten teacher, who taught me to read, and write correctly. Or should I write about my fifth grade teacher that really helped me when it came to math. I finally came to the decision that there has always been a teacher that has helped me whenever I needed it and has inspired me to do my best 100 percent of the time; My mom. My mother is not a teacher in the traditional sense, she didn’t stand in front of the room and talk about the quadratic formula but she taught me about everyday things. Don’t wash red clothes with white ones, don’t eat seafood drink dairy in the same day, and always tell the truth. Of course I tried to resist some of her lessons but she never gave up on me. As I spoke to my friends from school they tell me how their parents have kicked them out and how they have to live in ex-boyfriends house. I think about how my mother would never do that to me and how blessed I am to have her. Her devotion and dedication inspires me to do better and to be a better person.  So even though throughout my entire life I have had good school teachers that taught me things like the quadratic formula, they could never influence me as much as my mother.
