If you could have dinner with one U.S. President (living or not), who would it be and why? by Raymond - October 2017 Scholarship Essay
I have read a lot about many U.S Presidents, including what they achieved while in government as well as their achievements after serving the greatest country of the world, the United States of America. I have had keen interests in getting to know them better and learning about what made them successful inside and outside their presidency. Even though I have a lot of them in mind, I think the one whose performance during and after presidency seems more outstanding to me is Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States. In this piece of writing, a discussion of why I would prefer dining with Mr. Jimmy Carter would be made.
James Earl Carter Jr. served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. He was a member of the Democratic Party. Before ascending to the presidency, he served as the Governor of Georgia. Mr. Carter has remained active in public life during his post-presidency doing a lot of humanitarian work to ensure the world sees the best side of life. In 2002, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work with the Carter Center.
I think that if I could have the chance to dine with a U.S President, it would be President Jimmy Carter for helping to prevent a second Korean War. World peace is very much important to the well-being of every nation. Currently, the hostility existing between the President of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, and our U.S President, Donald Trump, seems to be a worldwide concern, whereby the UN has called on world leaders to ensure there is peace between the two countries. In the U.S, former President Jimmy Carter has decided to take a different approach with North Korean leader. Mr. Carter has taken upon himself to lead the peace talk with President Kim Jong-un.
Mr. Carter is aiming at revising a role he played in 1994. At that time, Mr. Carter visited North Korea and that brought about a reduction in the tensions between then-President Bill Clinton and the rogue state. He believes in dialogue and diplomatic approach. He knows that our country will be great and successful through effective talks with North Korea, since war with North Korea is war with the rest of the world. A U.S President who will not rely on a military solution as a preferred approach to North Korea’s threats will be the President that I will like to have dinner with if the opportunity is given to me. I think our country needs Mr. Carter who has prioritized his meeting with the North Korean leader, and his only desire is to play a constructive role for peace on the Korean Peninsula as he did in 1994.
