Different People; Different Reasons by Raghad - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

What is the purpose of an education? Well, that depends on the person receiving the education. For some people, education is about exposure, for others it's enjoyable. Some people find it necessary and for others it's unnecessary. Different people obtain an education for different reasons and some don't need it at all.

Some people aren't sure what they want to do in the future. Or other people don't even know what all of their options might be. They don't know what it's like to be a doctor, they don't know how to run a business, they aren't sure if they'd like to work in real estate. Those who don't know what they are going to do, are going to need exposure to the different fields. They pursue an education to sample each field, to figure out what they like. School will help them get exposure.

There are some people who just find learning enjoyable. They would love to sit in a classroom or read a textbook to find something they never knew before. Who doesn't want to learn about astronomy or anatomy or epidemiology? School is just plain enjoyable like watching TV or playing games is to any other person.

Many people already know what they want to do with their life. Those people who seem to have always been destined for one thing and already have their life planned out? They just simply know that they need the education to get wherever they plan to go. It's easy to tolerate the endless lectures and long nights of homework when you've got your eyes set on your end game.

And then there are those people who just have no reason to have an education. They know what their life is gonna look like, and, quite frankly, they just don't need it. Some people can achieve big things without an education. As long as you know you can get the kind of life or job you want without it, it's unnecessary.

Not everyone goes to school for the same reason and not everybody needs to go to school at all, but your ability to find your reason to gain an education will determine your success. If you need exposure, then you need to sample a variety of classes, while those who know exactly what they want to do only need to learn the necessary material, and those who learn for fun just find whatever they find interesting. Your education's purpose depends on you and your future depends on your education. So good luck.
