Educations Means? by Raechelle - July 2019 Scholarship Essay

From an early age, the importance of education was instilled in me by my mother. This is to be expected given that my mother is an elementary school teacher. However, in the same household was my father who was a high school graduate that defied odds in that he became an entrepreneur and started his own electrical company. With this came his perspective on secondary education as a waste of time and money. As a young child being raised in an environment with two conflicting viewpoints, I found it hard to develop my own perspective on whether education was important or not. This led to me pose the question of why should education be a passion?
Education is hard. You can study for hours on end in just to fail a test that you needed to receive a C in the class. You can spend time writing the essay of your dreams that provides you with so much confidence to have it given back to you with an F in and educators favorite pen color, red. If you ask me, education is one of the most demanding with sometimes the least reward, but what about when you receive that reward. What about those time when you study endlessly and receive an A on and an A in the Class? What about when you write the most perfect essay and receive the only A in the class? I believe that those times that have influenced me to develop my passion for education. My passion for education says that I have developed enough to discipline to set standards which in turn allows me to set goals and in return receive achievements.
A passion for education has plenty of different meanings. For me, it means standards, goals, and achievement. Education allows for me to set a standard for myself which provides me with the motivation to achieve goals. Outside of a home environment, I believe that in school is when a person receives an introduction to set a standard for themselves. Receiving a grade or an achievement that they are proud of allows for them to make their personal standard. Because of the standard that has been set, goals are to be the product of setting a standard. Given the nature of which goals are presented, they are typically deemed to be the stepping stones to achievements. A passion for education means that you are capable of disciplining yourself and are capable of setting a standard, creating a goal, and achieving it.
