One piece of advice I would share with younger students by Rachel - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

In looking back throughout my earlier education, it would have been great to have received additional guidance into the world I am thriving in. The advice that I am sharing was something I learned throughout my lifetime and feel like I should pass on. It is a series of tips that would have made me think back in my earlier days. I cannot believe that I am almost done with high school! One of the many things, I recommend, is to make sure you do your very best throughout middle school and high school. Additionally, do not be afraid to ask for assistance or help. My mother always said no question was too dumb to ask, but often times I was still afraid to ask! Education is so important, and I have realized that this isn’t a game, there aren’t any do overs. I slacked off a bit my freshman and half of my sophomore year before I realized that I really needed to improve myself as well as my grades. Sometimes life lessons are hard, but one should strive to succeed, and to be at the top of their class, to work hard in everything they do, especially in school!! School is our foundation for our future! This could get you to places that you never knew you could reach. I want you to be able to look back at all that you have achieved in your years of education and say that it was worth it in the end.

Another tip that I would like to give you is try whatever is on your heart. There isn’t anything wrong with trying something new whether it be a type of food, sport, or hobby. I want you to do as much as you can to see how great trying new things can be. It may be scary at first but you will get the hang of it I know it. I can’t tell you how many opportunities I’ve missed because I was too afraid to try it and just let loose. Enjoy what life has to offer you because if you don’t, that chance will be missed and you will forever be in regret for something so great. I also want you to know that friends come and go but if you find that one friend that is dearest to you, cherish that friendship forever. Throughout the time of my life when I was living in Germany I never had a close friend up until I moved to Alabama and made one of the best friends I have to this day. She’s been there for everything and I’m proud to say that nothing has come between us that we couldn’t fix ourselves. Friendships like that are hard to come by so when you do I want you to keep that close to you. My last tip for you, is to always be yourself. You know who you are so no one should decide how you live and act. Make sure that you are the one making the decisions of your own life because in the end who is living your life? You. So remember, always do well, try your hardest, if something sounds interesting – give it a go, and know who you are and cherish your friendships.
