How I Would Explain Continued Learning by Rachael - March 2018 Scholarship Essay
To a second grade student focused only on the present continued learning might be difficult to explain. I would start by asking them what they believe happens after the completion of 5th grade. When I myself was in the second grade I had no idea what happens and I really didn’t seem to care. To help them understand I would explain how after fifth grade a student will then move on to middle school and then after that into high school. Next, I would explain that all of these years together will get them prepared to live as an adult and possibly even continue their education into undergraduate, graduate, and even doctorate studies.
After that I would help them understand that after high school students could begin learning about subjects that matter to them to help them become veterinarians, and teachers, and even astronauts. Then I would point out how important it is for them to focus on school and activities they enjoy from second grade on so that one day they will be able to have a job that they love. I should then give them the definition of continued learning in a manner that these students would understand. I would say that continued learning is when someone continues to learn about something they are passionate about after the required amount of school has been completed. So, whatever type school or learning you participate in after high school would fall under continued learning.
For example, continued learning for a ballerina is dancing at a studio continually even after completed all the basic learning. Continued learning is important if that is going to be present in their future. I would tell them that they should pursue and continue learning about what they are passionate about because other people will notice and offer big opportunities.
I would mention next mention how I am just like them, a student on this journey to adulthood. To them, it might seem scary but I would tell them that it doesn’t have to be though they should continue to enjoy being children, growing up will just be another fantastic adventure. I would tell these students that the possibilities are endless.
I would tell them that I have loved art my whole life and I will be able to put my love of art and design into a potential career in graphic design and visual communications. I would say that graphic design makes aspects of normal life more visually appealing and artistic. Like me, they could pursue the career of their dreams by learning and working towards that goal each day at a time.
Finally, I would finish by telling all the students that continued learning will help them accomplish their dreams and help them become the next generation of amazing doctors, teachers, engineers, professional athletes, and ballerinas. For them to live out their all they need to do is to work hard and have fun. This wide-open future is just ahead and I would tell them that but tell them there is nothing to worry about because if they participate in activities they love they will have an amazing life.
