The Path to Improving Our World by Puneet - July 2019 Scholarship Essay
Education has long been a cornerstone for human civilization. Without it, all of the knowledge which our ancestors had acquired would have been easily lost, as lessons told by word of mouth have the tendency to become distorted, sometimes to the point of becoming blatantly incorrect. This is why it is imperative that the children of this generation and all of the ones succeeding it have adequate opportunity to learn about the world they live in.
A passion for education means that an individual has a burning desire to learn all that they possibly can, whether it be in an academic setting or a real world setting. One who is passionate for education will spend their Friday nights reading books on leadership and investing, rather than consuming online entertainment. They will both be a student as well as a teacher, in that they have the ability to learn in both instances from their mistakes. Someone with the passion for education will go out of their way to ensure that their peers are not left struggling in class, and will take time out of their day to get their classmates caught up to speed. These are just some of the instances in which a passion for education relates directly to myself.
Often times I am called out as the ‘smart’ guy in the class, where my classmates see me as someone who is intellectually gifted. However, they do not realize that I am no different than them in terms of mental capabilities. In fact, it is hard for me to memorize raw information and I must utilize the Internet to assist me when I do not understand a concept. The only difference between the majority of my classmates and I is our thirst for knowledge. I know that if I commit myself to my studies and take advantage of my resources, then I will have the chance of becoming a certified pediatrician one day. The end result due to my passion for education is to have the ability to heal ill children and make their day brighter. I strongly believe in ensuring the next healthy generation, which will be full of amazing entrepreneurs, CEO’s, and employees which will keep our world in a constant state of advancement.
I have a strong craving for education especially because I recognize that it is not readily accessible throughout the world. Throughout my life, I have been told by both my parents and grandparents how lucky our generation is to have all of the educational opportunities which are now available. As my family originated from India, there was often hardship in acquiring a decent education when my parents and grandparents were growing up. This incredible opportunity which I have been given to be part of the United States’ education system has made me all the more hungry to do well in school and to learn as much as I possibly can in order to make a mark on this world. This is why education has always been very near and dear to my heart, and my passion for education will continue for as long as I live.
