My goal by Presztyigei - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

My name is Presztyigei Pachan and I am about to enter my second year of college at Concordia University in St. Paul as a nursing major. My first year of college was a whirlwind of emotions and experiences.I went into school excited about pursing my dream career of being a nurse, meeting new people and experiencing new things. My roommate and I became very close very fast and I made other friends through her and everything was off to a really good start. My first semester was fun but a bit hard because I felt bad for leaving home and tried to go home as much as I could. I soon realized that I had to choose my schooling and my mental health above my family’s feelings so I began to stay at school more. That helped me get closer to people, become more independent and helped me focus on school. Second semester came and so did the friend drama and the educational struggle. I got to a really low point toward the end of the year because I fell out with some friends and I didn't pass a couple of classes that i needed for my nursing major. But the worst part was that because I had to retake those classes I wasn't going to be eligible for the nursing program anymore. That led me to feeling like I wasn't good enough to be a nurse and like nothing was going to work out. But I started reaching out to my advisors and thankfully they said if I can get my grades and GPA up I could file an appeal for nursing school.

My goal for this year is to focus way more on school and putting that above everything I want to plan out all my time and study as much as possible. I know I am capable of getting grades like A's and B's i just really need to apply myself. But I also dont want to stretch myself so thin and get stressed out and not enjoy my time in college. I want to work on having a healthy school, work and life balance so I can be my best physically, mentally, and emotionally. I am currently getting over that low point I was at at the end of the year and getting excited for the new school year to come. I am hoping that I learned from the things I experienced my first year to do better and be better this school year academically and socially.
