Pursuing Justice by Preston - July 2015 Scholarship Essay

I have always dreamed of being a lawyer since I was a little kid in elementary school. At first law became my interest because I found the ability to shape the decisions and change thought processes to be fascinating. The ability to make a difference in the community and in the world around is an ability that is incomparable. The ability to promote justice under the law has a power that is so great, yet so delicate. The ability to slam a gavel and change the course of one’s life is a very serious matter. This is why the field of law is so enticing and important.

My goal is to finish my undergraduate degree at a four-year university and move forward to law school. I firmly believe that I can make a difference for the better in not just my community, but society as a whole. The power to determine and enforce law is not one that is obtained easily. Law school is rigorous and expensive, but in the end, law is undoubtedly worth it. While actually attending a college, I hope to be a part of as many activities as possible. I am currently the student body president at my high school because I desire to make a difference in my school. This led me to meeting with the mayor in my town in an attempt to make a difference in my city. I have a strong natural desire to make differences for the better in my community and school. When I attend college, I will pursue this same thing.

Justice is a very deep word. Promoting justice is a hard task to accomplish, but I believe that throughout my college life and on to law school, I will have the ability to pursue this justice that I speak. The world that surrounds is not perfect, and there are flaws in many areas and fields. This corruption has hurt the lives of many people all different races and backgrounds, and I believe that by working as hard as I can, I can help these people not for personal glory, but because it is what is right. My goal is to make the world a more just place, and uphold the justice that currently exists in society. Some people use this power and abuse it to make money and corrupt the system of justice, I intend to seek these people out and fill their place with people who genuinely care about people and not just themselves. This goal may seem unreal, and it may seem far-fetched, but I believe that if I set my mind to it, I can achieve this goal.
