My Dream Job by Prachi - February 2019 Scholarship Essay
Growing up, I was always a very indecisive person. I wouldn't be able to make up my mind about where I wanted to eat, what I wanted to do, let alone what I wanted to do in the future without second guessing my decision immediately after. My dad would keep telling me to do computer science and my mom would say lawyer, and I had no idea what kind of career I would want to pursue that would make both my parents happy. I didn't know what a dream job would be for me because I was sure I would regret whatever career path I chose but it would be too late to change it.
Then one day, I started watching a show called Grey's Anatomy on TV because all my friends would talk about how good it was. At first, I was just intrigued by all the surgeons and their vast knowledge of being able to fix any medical issue that came to them, no matter how rare. I saw how interesting it would be to deal with different people every day, and getting to help all sorts of people for all sorts of different medical reasons. The more I watched it, the more I started to realize that I wanted to become a doctor to help people. This was around my sophomore year of high school when most people weren't sure about what they wanted to do in the future. For once in my life, I was able to tell my parents I wanted to be a doctor and not have second thoughts about it immediately after. And surprisingly enough, I stuck by the decision all throughout high school when I started to apply to colleges, and even now as a freshman in college as I am starting to take courses related to medicine.
Being a doctor encompasses everything I could want in a dream job; meeting new people, being excited to go to work, and most importantly, saving lives. My college plans will help me reach this goal because I am currently taking classes and completing my undergrad which is the first step on my path to becoming a doctor.
