Artificial Intelligence in Classrooms by Pooja - February 2018 Scholarship Essay

You are sitting in the comfort of your home, trying to learn the complex mechanisms of calculus, when your parents call you for dinner. You get up and eat the wonderful mashed potatoes and meatloaf that has been made. Once you’re done, you finish your lesson on calculus and shut down your teacher. Your teacher is a robot.

Artificial intelligence is the new and upcoming advancement in technology and there will be many improvements by the time 2038 reaches us. The definition of artificial intelligence is the advancement of computers to complete tasks that a human brain can accomplish. This includes things like visual and depth perception, translation to and from various languages, speech and face recognition, and decision making. The latter of which would be a major breakthrough because as of right now, very little technology can function that close to an actual human brain and actually be able to make decisions on their own without the help of a human programmer.

Artificial intelligence would be very helpful in schools or for students who are homeschooled. They would eliminate the error of a human teacher by giving accurate information or correcting a teacher when wrong. They could also show students material that a human couldn’t and students wanting to go into the computer science or medical field would greatly benefit from their addition.

So, artificial intelligence could be a new addition to classrooms and when you think you just might have seen it all with robots, in 2038 there will probably be more.
