Why I'm A Night Owl by Phillip - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
Knowing the time when I am most productive is of utmost importance to my academic success, and I believe this time is in the evening. I wake up relatively early every morning at around 5:30 a.m., and must start preparing for school immediately due to my parents’ schedule. As such, I have little to no time for accomplishing tasks such as studying until I reach my school. Once I reach campus, I continue to struggle with focusing on doing work before class begins since I still haven’t shaken off the haze of the morning. On weekends, although I do not have to get ready for school early in the morning, I still have trouble focusing on tasks such as homework before noon.
I am much better suited for completing work and being productive at night. As the school day progresses, I gradually become more efficient in accomplishing my tasks, and by the time I come home I am prepared to do things such as study and clean my room. On weekends, having the luxury of a free day allows me to distribute my time and effort so I can study and help around the house in the afternoon and into the evening. I mainly attribute my night owl tendencies to my gradual awakening throughout the day. By the time evening comes around, I am usually at my most alert and productive mental state.
