My Future by Peyton - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

For the last several years, I have known what profession I want to pursue. Most people don’t know what they want to do until they have to make a decision about colleges. However, I have known that I want to be a dental hygienist for the last four years. I have researched the best colleges, programs, and majors for months because I am dedicated and determined to achieve my goals.
I have always wanted to pursue a career in the medical field, but I wasn’t sure what area I wanted to study in until my freshman year of high school. The idea of helping people stay happy and healthy in their lives is one of the main reasons why I want to become a dental hygienist. I feel that I have come to understand the importance of helping and looking out for others due to the community that I have grown up in. I have lived in Sackets Harbor for all seventeen years of my life. In that time, I have made relationships with people around town that will last a lifetime. Not only am I gaining support from my peers and teachers in school, but also in the community as well. That is the best part about living in a small town: everyone knows you, where you come from, and what your goals are and they will push you to be the best that you can be. I have received a tremendous amount of love and support from my community throughout my life, and there is not enough to say about how grateful I am for everything. My goal to become a dental hygienist is not only coming from a desire to work in that career field, but also from the strength and reassurance that my community has given me. My future goals will positively affect the community by giving it hope. The idea that the community will have a continual growth of hope in itself and others by seeing the success of the people within the community. They will see that all of their hard work, dedication, and selflessness to the students at Sackets Harbor will hopefully show them how much our community is truly appreciated.
I have been pushed to be my best student, athlete, and person because of the support that I have received from the community. There is no doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t be the person I am today without my community. This is the reason why I want to pursue a career that is dedicated to helping others. I want to give back all of the kindness that I have received in the form of keeping a person happy and healthy. Hopefully, the underclassmen around me will see how much the community supports and helps them and want to do the same thing. Hopefully they will want to push themselves to be the best that they can be, showing their community that they are grateful and appreciative for their support. The more support that you give your community, the more support that you will receive to help you achieve your goals. My future isn’t set in stone, and my career field may change, but I know that I will continue to always do something to help make a difference in the lives of people, because that is what my community has given me.
