Vision by Peyton - November 2022 Scholarship Essay

I have always been a here and now person. Take life one day at a time, work hard, give my best, things will work out. I have also always had goals and dreams. But, knowing that I am about to graduate from high school and have the opportunity to walk out those dreams has been the most surprising source of inspiration. I figured this year would be just like any other year. Set my goals, work hard, do what is expected and hopefully check off some of those goals along the way. But, as I draw closer and closer to leaving my home and embarking on my future, the vision and plan have had to be more in the forefront of my mind. Sometimes, the thought of moving on, being on my own, can be a little scary, and I question, "Do I really want to do this?" Or I think, "I could just stay around here, take the easy route." But, then I remember that vision, that dream in my heart that I plan to accomplish and I am inspired more than ever before.
There have always been goals and dreams and plans, but they might have been a little bit of a "pie in the sky" before. But now, knowing that they count more than before, they are the catalyst that inspires and keeps me moving forward. I think most parents tell their children, "You can be anything you want to be!" My parents have always done that and it feels true. But eventually, that statement catches up with us and we realize that we CAN be anything we want to be, but only if we believe it first. This is where vision is so important. We have to envision what we want to be first. I have spent a lot of time doing that this year, as I prepare for the time I go out into the world and attempt this on my own. I have thought about what I really want to be and whether or not I have the self-efficacy to go and be that. And, it has been inspiring!
