Welcome to Vista by peyton - March 2019 Scholarship Essay
One question I would ask myself before entering high school was, “what can high school offer me?”, or “how can I have the best experience throughout the course of high school?”. Well, I’m sure you have found yourself asking similar, if not the same questions. Attending Vista del Lago will help you become exposed to new beginnings and academic skills, which you will continue to use even long after you have graduated. While being a student at this school, I can certainly say that the best way to experience anything is to be involved in any school-wide activities, clubs, or sports. Today I will discuss the three main components that help the school feel more friendly, and these components are academics, sports, and clubs.
Academics are the most important subjects that schools focus on. Each school strives to be the best, whether it is simply in the district or more complex such as the best in its state. The academic programs here at Vista are not very different from the other schools in the area however, they are supportive and understanding when it comes down to student's decisions. Some courses include; AP, Honors, S TEM core classes, college prep electives, language, as well as visual and performing arts. With the wide variety of classes available at Vista, it is no wonder students cannot decide what they want to be enrolled in. I must admit along with the fun and easy courses, come the hard and stressful courses. That's why the school offers to tutor from 3-4:30 pm Monday-Thursday, as well as separate tutors for those who are taking AVID or Health Academy as a college prep elective. The last thing we want is to see you fail, and so we will try as hard as you do in order to prevent that from happening.
In addition to the academic programs here at Vista, we have some very decent sports and performing arts programs. Usually, when people think about high school sports teams, they think about mainstream sports such as Basketball, or Football. When I was a freshman I was unaware of the golf, and tennis teams here at Vista. The sports don't just stop there either, we also have; soccer, baseball, softball, wrestling, X-Country, track & field, cheerleading, as well as volleyball. All of these sports have a team for each gender, and if not you can always feel free to join the sport of your choice if there is no option for your gender. Aside from sports, we have performing arts which include; theatre, show choir, choir, band, color guard, dance, and Ballet Folklorico.
Lastly, we have clubs and school-wide activities. Vista has a club for everyone's wants and needs, and if you cannot find one that suits you, there is no trouble in making one. Some of the clubs the school offers are; Bible, chess, environmental, save the children, mecha, psych, biology, anime, etc. I've been to a few club meetings, and they are a perfect way to become involved and meet new people. A number of clubs will go on field trips, which are available for the entire school, so even if you were not interested in joining a club such as bio, you can always join them when going to the beach or visiting the zoo. The school-wide activities typically happen during lunch, where you are exposed to the people with a common schedule, and participate in; games, singing or dancing with one another for a prize(normally a slushie from ASB).
To wrap up the tour, Vista del Lago is a school that has much to offer, and strict support to correspond with whatever you choose to pick up. If you are ever worried about whether or not you are going to succeed, feel free to talk to the faculty members for a piece of advice. Once again, no matter what it is you decide to do throughout your years in high school, just make sure your choices best fit you and not the people around you. The way to guarantee less stress than others is to never put on more than you can handle and to always give it your all even if you feel weak because maintaining a positive mind is the best way to succeed.
