Enlighten by Payton - January 2018 Scholarship Essay

I am a successful three sport athlete. If you Google my name, you will see that I am in the newspaper. However, behind the headlines, I feel my greatest accomplishment is being a student tutor at our high school. I spend my study hall in the Academic Resource Center to help students in math. There is no better feeling than seeing the look on a fellow student's face when they have that a-ha moment of clarity. Something I helped them attain. This opportunity has given me the realization of pursuing a degree in math education. I hope to be able to help enlighten students.

The ability to be able to offer insight and give back is very powerful. I understand the demand of being an educator in and outside of the classroom as my mother is a high school guidance counselor. Although she would rather have me study finance, I feel that being a teacher is a calling. My calling.

I feel that the opportunity to help tutor students in and outside of school has enlighten me. I know myself better by the ability to help others. It has made me a better person. I have tried to leave a mark while in high school. I feel that teaching will allow me to impact others and leave a mark on the world.
