Leadership and Responsibilty by Patricia - May 2024 Scholarship Essay
Leadership to me means responsibility. Simply put, no one wants a sloppy or lazy leader. I have been a leader of sorts my whole life. As the oldest of 17 children, leadership just came naturally to me. My family liked to refer to it as "mother hen syndrome", but I feel that the mother hen thing would be a choice, for which I had none. I love having people look to me for love, support, and advice. It gives me a sense of wholeness. So, I guess in summary, leadership to me is knowing and having the ability to be responsible for your words and actions.
Someone who demonstrated great leadership in my life was my Gram. She is who I have and will always mold myself after. She cared for everyone and everything. Her wisdom was far beyond my realm of understanding until recently. I have learned that she was my all-powerful leader because she led from her heart. Whether it be as a home for people with special needs, or as a kind, cake baking, loving grandmother, she always lived and lead with her heart.
This is what leadership means to me, and why. You have to lead with love and responsibilty in order for your leadership to be valuable. Otherwise, you're just the first clown stumbling out of the clown car, with other Bozo's following.
