Dear Future Me by Patricia - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

One summer after another I watch the days roll past just as I’m rolling out of my bed. Soon enough summer is over and I’m sitting in a class room once again with a cool breeze and fall weather just around the corner. I find myself deep in my homework and studying, pushing myself to give the best quality of work I can and maintain good grades. For my first year in college I know it will be an adventure but I have a goal to have straight A’s and have a deep understanding of what I'm learning.
To have all A’s can be a rather challenging task but what’s even more challenging is truly understanding what I’m learning. Yes, my goal is to always have A’s in my classes but if I don’t understand what I’m learning a letter is only a grade but understanding a subject is knowledge that cannot be defined by a grade. Knowledge is something that can bring a person farther than a grade in one class. If I know I understand what I’m doing and maybe I don’t have an A but rather a B but truly know what’s going on I am willing to make the sacrifice.
Grades, grades, grades are so important to school but knowledge of understanding what I’m doing is more important to me. I am hopeful I can look at more of consuming knowledge and truly learning than just looking at a letter. A letter does not define who I am academically, my knowledge is something that cannot be defined by a number or a grade in a class. I just hope future me will remember this and know it will all be ok in the end.
