Lessons I’ve learned by Patrice - July 2024 Scholarship Essay

The most important lesson I have learned this year is that you can achieve anything you put your mind to. This realization has had a profound impact on me, driving me to strive for my goals with unwavering determination. I never believed I could make my cheer team, but through hard work and persistence, I finally achieved my goal, and it has changed my whole life.

At the beginning of the year, I was filled with self-doubt. I had always admired the cheerleaders at my school and dreamed of being one of them, but I never thought I was good enough. My friends and family encouraged me to try out, but I was scared of failing. Despite my fears, I decided to give it my all. I practiced tirelessly, pushing myself beyond my limits.

When tryouts came, I felt a mix of excitement and nerves. I performed the best I could, and to my surprise, I made the team. This moment was a turning point for me. It taught me that with dedication and hard work, I could achieve anything I set my mind to. This lesson has not only boosted my confidence but also motivated me to apply the same determination to other areas of my life.

As a rising high school senior with a GPA of 3.9, I am passionate about pursuing a career in the medical field, either in Nursing or Pre-Med. The journey to becoming a healthcare professional is challenging, but my experience with making the cheer team has shown me that I am capable of overcoming obstacles. I know that the road ahead will require long hours of studying, rigorous coursework, and unwavering commitment, but I am prepared to face these challenges head-on.

Being a cheerleader has also taught me the importance of teamwork and communication. These skills are essential in the medical field, where collaboration and clear communication can make a significant difference in patient care. Through cheerleading, I have learned how to work effectively with others, support my teammates, and stay focused under pressure. These experiences have prepared me for the collaborative environment of a healthcare setting.

Moreover, as a Black woman, I am driven to break barriers and serve as a role model for others in my community. Representation matters, and I want to show young girls that they can achieve their dreams, no matter the obstacles they may face. My journey to making the cheer team has given me the confidence to pursue my goals and inspire others to do the same.

Looking ahead, I am excited about the opportunities that college will bring. Whether I attend the University of Central Florida, Georgia State University, Florida State University, Florida International University, Florida A & M University, or Johns Hopkins University, I am committed to making the most of my education and achieving my dream of becoming a healthcare professional. I am eager to learn from experienced professors, engage in meaningful research, and gain hands-on experience in clinical settings.

In conclusion, the most important lesson I have learned this year is that you can achieve anything you put your mind to. This lesson has driven me to strive for my goals with determination and confidence. Making the cheer team was a pivotal moment in my life, showing me that hard work and persistence pay off. As I move forward, I will carry this lesson with me, applying it to my studies and future career in the medical field. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my story and hope to inspire others to pursue their dreams with the same determination and resilience.
