Don't Worry by Patience - September 2022 Scholarship Essay

If I could give my past self any one piece of advice, it would be not to worry. There's so many reasons why I would benefit from not worrying, in the past and even today. I think that had I heard good advice on this when I was younger, I may have saved myself a lot of anxieties in the years following.
The first reason why this would be the advice I would want to give to a younger version of myself is because I needed to know that it's okay when things don't go exactly as planned. That having plans are good, and that they help me set realistic goals for myself, but that plans also change. It doesn't have to be a bad thing when your plans change, and sometimes, its the perfect opportunity for growth. Make sure to use those opportunities to grow instead of worrying about how things didn't go exactly how I had mapped them out in my head.
The next reason the younger version of myself would benefit from hearing this would be that maybe it would help me to see that other people are entirely out of my realm of control, so I don't need to worry about what they think. If you have no control over things like what other people think, why on earth would you waste your time worrying about it? It doesn't make sense, and it's something I certainly wish I had learned sooner.
The last, and biggest reason I think I'd benefit from hearing that, is that I needed to know that sometimes, it's okay to worry. Not to have to worry in a life-consuming kind of way, but to think about different possibilities and the best way to move forward in different situations. It's good to think, but don't worry about how everything will turn out, because as long as you're doing your best, everything turns out fine.
