Describe an academic goal you have for the upcoming year. by Parker - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

My senior year of high school is full of unexpected decisions that will have great impacts on my future. For several reasons, my immediate academic goal is to maintain and improve my academic standing. Grade point averages (GPA) are like life, taking time to build and mere moments to fall.

Currently, I have a 4.47 GPA and am ranked 3 of 455 students in my class. With a rigorous senior course schedule, this is not the time to give-up. What will it take to reach my goal? Motivation, hard work and focus are just a few attributes that come to mind. I am motivated. I will work hard. I am focused.

My motivation is to be medical doctor, and the journey has already begun. The journey requires academic success, drive and determination. High school GPAs matter and my motivation to be successful is strong.

I have and continue to work hard. As a three-sport student-athlete, with two part-time jobs, hard work is required. Team and individual team sports have allowed me to appreciate the field of play. Like life, points are earned, not given. Working hard has helped me understand what is required to be successful. With extracurriculars, GPAs could suffer. But to win, hard work is required.

My focus is sharp and concentrated. I understand that life is not a competition but it is competitive. I will stay the course and not lose sight of what is required to maintain my GPA and excel in the classroom. There are many distractions in high school, and generally in life. Focus is key.

I am excited to have the opportunity to potentially achieve my academic goal of maintaining and improving my high school GPA. If successful, I will have gained the experience of accomplishment and fuel for my journey. If unsuccessful, I will have gained just the same.
