Academically by Panida - October 2019 Scholarship Essay

My mom is the person who influenced me to go back to college. At the College Southern Maryland in September 2011(double check the date) I noticed that I had some challenges where I was not able to get my associate’s degree for Child Development. I was struggling with math and had a math disability. Once a professor gave me a problem to solve, I knew how to solve it, but when it came to testing time, I somehow could not retain the math formulas. I did get a lot of math support for my math homework from my math professor and also at the tutoring center at the college. I had to retake the math classes again because I failed the class. I was trying my very best to pass the math class, but struggled and was very frustrated with myself that I did not pass the course.
Once I was I moved to Tacoma, Washington, I decided to not continue of going to college there to try again because I did not want to pay for more college tuition which were expensive and I would have math issues again and struggle with the class. So I decided to find a job at a daycare working with children. I was able to work there, but found out that child care centers were not my things even though I am good with children. The child care center was not what I was inspecting and did not really enjoy the job.
Later on I moved to Oroville, Washington and I saw an advertisement to work part- time as a librarian assistant. I have always wanted to work at the library and it was one of my dream jobs. At that time I was working part time at two library branches, but I have noticed that I was not getting hours like I would like and it was hours here and there. My mom found a college that would help with my learning and math disabilities, she told me the name of the college which was the Bellevue College the OLS program. The OLS program is Occupational Life Skills program. The decision was hard for me to go to this college because I would have to move to Bellevue and also leave some of my family and friends behind, but my mom motivated me to go back to college.
The motivation to go back to college and get an Associate’s Degree was what I really wanted to do. This degree would further my future for the rest of my life by getting a better education, having more job opportunities and able to support myself for the rest of my life. My mom was the one who supported me, and she would not let me fail, and she wanted what was best for me for the rest of my life eve if something was challenging for me and encouraged me every step of the way.
