My Dream Job by Paige - February 2019 Scholarship Essay
My dream job
“Education is important.” my Grandpa has always told me. I've grown into the person I am today because of my Grandpa and my big Italian family. They are the ones who motivate me to strive to do my best and have always supported my talents. My family has always supported my love of singing. Sitting through my singing as a kid, off pitch most of the time, is what would always happen at any family gathering. That’s the real talent, acting like someone is good at singing until they actually are pretty good. During high school, I became lost at times, wondering what I was meant to do with my life. This is the one question that most people my age ask themselves. All I knew for sure, was that I wanted to do something that would help others. I researched many occupations and became interested in the field of Speech-Language Pathology. Speech-Language Pathology focuses on helping others with speech and language skills. Also, helping patients with cognitive issues such as short term memory skills. I had the opportunity to observe a Speech Pathologist at a local assisted living center, which taught me a lot. Immediately, I knew that Speech Therapy was my goal after college.
In the fall of 2019, I plan on attending Grand Valley State University to study Speech Pathology. College is the time in our lives where we grow as individuals and find our true goals in life. I know I will work hard towards mine of becoming a Speech Therapist by taking the necessary classes as an undergraduate and working hard in every single one. College will help me reach my goal by providing an excellent education and training methods to make sure I am fully equipped for the job. I know I want to be a great Speech Therapist, which is what Grand Valley State University will help me accomplish my career path. College is not all about the classes you take, but the many skills you learn in professional and personal development. After I earn my degree for Speech Pathology, I plan to attend graduate school for Speech Therapy, as well.
Although entering a new chapter in my life is scary, I know deep down that I need to start somewhere new and grow as an individual. Also, the next few years will help build my future which is why it is important for me to stay focused and stay dedicated. My family has always supported me and taught me that I can do anything I set my mind to, which is what I will do in college and when I become a Speech Therapist.
