Take your job seriously... by Paige - July 2016 Scholarship Essay

In the county where I attended high school, the students were in the top 10% of the senior class were able to pick one of their favorite teachers from their K-12 path and express gratitude before the community. Though I worked really hard, I didn’t make it in the 10%. Though I graduated this June, this essay gives me the chance to recognize an exceptional teacher that has made a significant impact in my choice of career and in my daily walk. Mrs. Kendra Crane, nurse and Health/CNA high school teacher, was definitely my favorite teacher whose words resounded often in my daily walk of life. The phrase above, has an in depth meaning for me. When you care for others (grandparents), as I have done with my parents for the past two years, it really hits home. Whether or not you are working with elderly family members or even working at an average job, you must take whatever position you uphold seriously.

Even though Mrs. Crane was a health and occupation teacher, she influenced not just me but a whole class of students. She encouraged us to get involved in our studies, to maintain above average in academics, and to get involved with the community. For example, the class would assist those who participated in the blood drive.she gave us physical examples of how certain habits can diminish your health overtime. And, she exposed us to many medical terms and professions that encouraged many of us to consider the science field in college.

Though in her many lessons that she provided in that semester, it really become a trending theme in the work that I did and still do, “Take my job seriously, because it could affect someone’s life.” This is something that I really appreciate from her teachings. I’ve learned that when exposing a student to just one way of learning, the result will not prepare you for the future, but when given the chance to try new aspects of learning, you will receive the greatest reward by doing what you enjoy, and you will leap beyond measures. My teacher, Mrs. Crane was an example of that.
