Why I Am the Way I Am. by Omni - February 2025 Scholarship Essay

In most ways I grew up in an abnormal household. I wouldn't consider my childhood to be easy, but I was lucky enough to quickly learn how to overcome those adversities and turn them into lessons and other ways to help me grow and that's something not a lot of people have the ability to do. When I really started to understand and comprehend what was happening in my surroundings more than just experiencing, that transitioned into asking myself why. Why do I feel so much anxiety? Why am I scared of not being successful in my future? I had so many questions about what I was feeling and where it came from and it turned into just doing research about the questions I had and reading books on different things to help me understand my thoughts and feelings.

After this I was interested in how to harness my emotions and learn how to change my mindset and not victimize myself. I was extremely overreactive, I would overshare, and I wouldn't have much societal awareness which all roots from the way I was raised. I don't think I was raised in a bad way, but there are always environmental factors that can affect that.

Another one of my main reasons for wanting to learn is because I wanted to pursue an education that helped get me further than where I saw my family members go, and it's cool that I am now a huge inspiration to them. Since then I have had the opportunity to live in New York and Dallas for internships and do everything that my mom would've done when she was younger if she was able to.

While I didn't pursue a career that reflects the initial thing that sparked my passion for learning, it is something I still incorporate in my every day life. I truly believe in the art of positive self-talk, manifestation, law of attraction, and so much more about the small every day things we do that can genuinely help change the way we live life. I am pursuing a degree in accounting and economics but I still study quantum physics and neuroplasticity that talk about these things, and is something I can't wait to inspire others to learn as well.
