Future Me! Where Will I Be? by Olivia - March 2025 Scholarship Essay

Highly motivated student athlete and entrepreneur seeks scholarship money to pursue her dreams! Running my own small business has already allowed me a step above others to achieving my career goals. A little over a year ago, I started reselling used clothes for a profit. I do my sourcing at the Goodwill outlet and then sell the clothing on an online app. Most people that go to the Goodwill Outlet centers are resellers, which has allowed me to have a network of people to talk to that have helped me expand my business. Along the way, these people have assisted me in growing my business by helping me figure out new ways to run or market my business, by using social media. With this being said, I have found that I enjoy running my own small business and making money for myself to save for college. I have decided to further my athletic, business and educational goals at Purdue University Northwest's school of business where I have been admitted to their Business Entrepreneurship program and will be rostered to play women’s soccer.
This is not the only thing that I aspire to do though. After I obtain my degree I plan to entire the fire academy and become a firefighter. With my 48 hours off, I plan to run my small business. Not only would I like to help my community by becoming a firefighter, but I ideally want to open my own thrift store. I plan to take in donations, and alongside the fire department and community, we would use clothing donations to give out and support families in need, especially those affected by tragedies such as house fires. I also plan to obtain my red card to fight wildfires like the ones we have been seeing in California recently.
In 10 years I see myself fighting fires, running my small business, and helping my community through volunteer work and providing victims of tragedies with items they need to get back on their feet.
