Senior Quote by Olivia - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

Most seniors aim to leave a humorous note in the yearbook under their name, usually involving a pop culture reference. Mine would be "She doesn't even go here", something the character Damien from Mean Girls states when a girl from a different school, who isn't supposed to be there, gives a cheesy speech. This quote relates to me since I've been taking dual enrollment courses at Bellevue College for my junior and in-progress for senior year so I technically attend a different school than the majority of my graduating classmates. The quote includes the humor and a citation of a well-known film as intended by senior quotes while also being true to my circumstance in regards to school. In understanding of the, it goes to reflect my ambition in academics because I made the choice to take college-level classes in high school to earn an Arts & Sciences Associate's Degree at the same time that I'll earn a high school diploma, rather than just taking advanced high school AP or honors classes that most students challenge themselves with.

Additionally, my quote comes from the context of a school meeting happening in the movie to address a lack of compassion amongst classmates. Though the girl giving the speech isn't supposed to be at the school, as she doesn't attend it, she still expresses her ideas of how people should behave with one another. This background can relate to my belief that sometimes doing or saying what's right doesn't entirely comply with standards. Although I'm no rulebreaker this principle can be applied in many cases throughout human history: slavery, restriction of women's rights, and child labor were all considered to be norms at some point but were most definitely not the right thing to be doing. As I don't attend classes beyond music at my high school, most people don't realize that I'm a fellow classmate. This doesn't change the fact that I have the ability to participate and express myself there in terms of orchestra/solo performances, sports, or class events.
