Being an Art Teacher by Olivia - August 2017 Scholarship Essay

If I could one day be a college professor, I would want to become an art teacher. Not only do I love to teach, but I have also always loved art and to learn. I believe when teaching a subject, both the students and teacher should enjoy the subject. I want my students to be more passionate about something instead of just trying to get by in life as I tried. Even now, as a college student myself, I am not completely sure where my life will leave me so I would be very happy if I can help students find a path that suits them in the arts. Not all students are talented in the main subjects like math or English, but I want to work with them to give them a chance at doing something enriching that could open doors in their future paths.
The best part about teaching art is the ability to pass my love and knowledge of the arts to others. Art is a unique way of communication and college students, whether they know it or not, already have a certain style that fits them in clothes, music, and even their favorite colors. I am curious to see the many styles that present themselves in different students.
While being able to see improvements within a student is rewarding, being able to influence them and teaching what I know makes me very happy. That is why I would want to teach an art class as a college professor.
