The Next Big Step by Olivia - November 2016 Scholarship Essay

Throughout high school and the process of growing up, I have had to work for my success and accomplishments. At the beginning of high school, I knew that if I wanted to succeed and get into the school of my dreams, I would need to learn self-discipline and push myself to do my best. Through this process of learning self-discipline and determination, I have learned my limits and how much I need to put myself to work to reach my goals.
When the process of choosing the right college came around, I knew it was going to be tough because my twin sister was also choosing one, too. Ultimately, through this process, we have decided to separate. Because of this, I know that college will be a completely different life without her. We have grown up doing the same things and having the same friends, so when college comes, being my own person without the knowledge of my sister prior to that will be something I am looking forward to. I will be most thankful for the experience that allows me to be independent and explore new things with new people. Of course, I will miss her so much, but I have longed for the day that I can go to college and do what I love and meet people that won't call me by her name. Along with being independent, I am most excited to find out who I really am on my own and find out the aspects of my major that will allow me to succeed in my chosen career path. The college experience will sure be different than anything I have ever known. I will get to be on my own, do what I love and meet amazing people along the way. No matter where I really end up, I know it is up to me to create the best experience possible. I know that I will have to push myself and get myself known to do well and because of my hard work throughout my life, I know that I am ready for whatever lies ahead.
