What I Did Not Know Then You Should Know Now by Olivia - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

Now that I am in college I have learned one major lesson that I should have started when I was a younger student. This would be to study in small sections every night rather than to wait until the night before a test and cram all the information learned in one month into one night.

When I was in grade school I was a straight A student. I would study for about fifteen to twenty minutes the night before a test and I would get an easy A or in a rare case a B on a test. However, when I got to college I tried to do the same routine as I did in grade school and it backfired. I took anatomy my first semester and I had gotten my first D on a major exam. I felt down, but I realized what I had to do. I needed to increase my study time to be able to pass the next exam. So I waited until the night before the test however, I increased my study time to about three hours. However, I did not do much better. I then knew I had to try a new study technique. So I found a new method to studying which is to study every night for a shorter amount of time. When it came time for the big exam I felt more confident than I ever have. Not only that but I passed my test with an A.

Always remember that what you do now can affect what you do later on. So even though you only study for a couple minutes in grade school and pass it may not be the same in college. Success takes work and when it is earned that is when you can reach your goals.
