Positive thinking by Nubia - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
My cosmetology teacher taught me many lessons. One lesson was to be cognizant of the words I spoke. She encouraged us to keep a positive outlook in any situation and to only speak what we wanted to happen in any situation.
There is a scripture in the Bible-Proverbs 18:21 that says “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” To me this scripture means to think about what you want before you say. This scripture confirms that what you say, whether it’s good or bad will come to pass.
Ms. Gains would always correct a student anytime they said something negative in her room. She would always encourage us to say what we want instead of what we saw in front of us. One student failed several test, but at the beginning of the test, she would say, “I’m going to fail this test.” One day she stated, “I’m going to get an 80% on this test”, and that is the score she received. That was a lesson for all of us.
I’ve implemented this in my life. I have some obstacles to get over. I state what I want to happen. I concentrate on what I want, not the current circumstance, and I’ve been coming out on top.
Learning this lesson has made a big impact on my life. As a result, I have seen growth, and see myself change as a whole. Positive thinking has made me improve mentally, and physically. Now that I have been taught this lesson I always find a positive solutions to a bad situation.
