Definity of Success by Nora - February 2021 Scholarship Essay

People have lots of different views on success, some people see it as making a decent amount of money, others see it as finding your passion and doing what you love, either way success means something different to everyone, it's a hard concept to define. For me I would say success is a mix of a lot of different things combined together. As a young adult looking into my future I envision things that I would hopefully like to see and grow up into, I suppose what I would like to see in my future would be my own personal definition of success. I would like to be happy, accomplished, and surrounded by loved ones. If I am able to achieve these few things then I would say that I have succeeded in my own life.

Going into and graduating from college I know can help me obtain the things I listed above. The entire goal of college, or as I see it, is to set up the best possible opportunities for students and get them prepared to live and make it in the real adult world. Colleges provide a wide arrange of majors for students to choose from that allows them to find what they want to do and make a living from for a large part of their lives. As a senior I always get this question from family members, teachers, and friends on what I intend on majoring in. For lots of classes students will go around and say what they plan on majoring in and there is always a big variety of answers. I feel like in college anyone could go into something that they are interested in and find a career that they will love to do and give you a degree for it, and if a person is still unsure what they would like to major in colleges help with that too. A college degree is now almost a necessity for a lot of jobs out there, and to give yourself the most opportunities you can having that degree could make a big difference. It could open up a lot of possible job positions or maybe put you above one job applicant and get you the job. To me a college degree is almost a way for people to prove that they have worked hard and got a good education to pursue the lifestyle that they want to live. Getting a college degree and in the future getting a good job to support myself and a family would take care of the "accomplished" part of my personal success.

Another good aspect that college provides is making connections with people. There are lots of clubs and teams and activities that create an opening to meet lots of new people. You hear from nearly everyone that attended university that said college was one of the best times in their lives, and have made lifelong friends or even met their significant other while they were there. My older brother is a junior in college right now and he is always telling me about the people that he has met there and how he has made a lot of close friendships. I am a very social person and I love to go out and do things and be with people. I know that going to college will be a very fun and rewarding experience for me. Especially right now with the national quarantine going on, it has especially made me, and everyone quite honestly, more appreciative for the little things like going out and being with friends. And you don't only make friends in colleges you make connections with people who have connections with other people, these little groupings of connections can present even more opportunities past what the college degree itself already got you. Meeting lifelong friends and making all kinds of relationships with people fulfils the requirements of "surrounding myself with loved ones" aspect of my success.

Getting a college degree is a big aspiration that I have. I know without a doubt that it will help prepare me for my future and present me with a lot of opportunities. Succeeding in college or university will help me succeed in the life that I want to build for myself, and although success means something different for everyone that is what success means to me, just overall being happy and living a stable life.
