Happy by Noelani - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
When it comes to New Year’s resolutions, I’m not the type to choose a particular thing to improve myself on. I start the year with a new outlook and make a promise to myself to be better in every aspect of my life. This year that includes school. So as part of my refreshed perspective with the new year, I’m committing myself to finishing college.
I have a small plan for this resolution. The first thing I have to do is create a routine; I need to dedicate at least two hours every day after my classes to either studying or completing an assignment. The only exceptions are if I have work, something important comes up, or if I have absolutely nothing to work on. This time should take place in the library as often as possible. Also, listening to music helps me study so I’ll either need to stay off my phone or find an alternative for music. Secondly, I have to remain organized, both physically and mentally. Keeping all my notes and papers in order and my schedule and personal life in line will help me remain stress free.
I’ve always had trouble committing to things in my life, but this time it is extremely important that I remain focused. This is bigger than anything I’ve done in my life and I have to take it seriously. As long as I follow my plan, I’ll be successful. It’ll be tough but in the end, I’ll be happy; which is my ultimate New Year’s resolution: to be happy.
