Studying Abroad: College Education By:Nikki Sauer by Nikki - November 2017 Scholarship Essay

In the United States I would not get the same rich, diverse experience as I would in another country. I would love to meet new people and understand different cultures, I don’t have the resources to obtain this in america. Studying abroad would add a mixture of diverse, enthralling and life changing experiences to my education.
Throughout my life, I feel as if I have lived in a bubble. From the time I was born until the age of 16, I lived in the same town. Growing up in the same place, withheld me from experiences I could have gotten from traveling to another state, let alone another country. I have gone to Canada once when I was ten to a church camp and I have gone to a few neighboring states. I recently moved from Mcminnville, OR to a coastal community, about 2 hours away. From that small move I learned independence and made many friends along the way. From those small adventures on family trips and moving, it felt as if my mind expanded, understanding different cultures as I travel.
It it is hard to understand diversity when you’ve never been exposed to very much. I would want to study somewhere that I personally believe would not only improve my outlook of the world, but would give me a unique impactful education. A place of choice to study abroad would be Europe because I have heard about their education system. In Europe they use the dual-system, “The "dual-system" is a branch of education that a student can choose after completion of the ninth or tenth grade (or later) consisting of a three year apprenticeship in business or industry coupled with theoretical studies in a School for Pre-Professional Specialization and Further Development (usually twice a week)”( Tamara,1992). Studying in Europe would help me become more intune with the different cultures of the world and it would help me graduate more so than the US. I have always been fascinated with Europe and the geological lay out. If I studied there, not only would I get the amazing experience of learning a new culture, but I would be getting a different style of education.
My dream job would to be doing conservation science in Europe. It would add that extra boost of ambition that any college student would dream of. My plan right now is to apply to a college in my state and go there until I get the degree of my liking. Studying abroad would change this seemingly routine education, to a distinct cultural education.
This would change my life because the experience I would get in Europe, I would never get in a college in my home state. I would get to learn another language , and at the same time learn about the landscapes of Europe. I believe diversity is a key asset to a good education. I would discover myself while gaining a great academic experience.
