Mountian to my dreams by Niki - July 2016 Scholarship Essay

I had many teachers in my short life and not all of them are school teachers. I learned valuable lessons from all the teachers that I have had, but out of all of them the best lesson I learned was from a person very dear to me, my grandma. She taught me many life lessons; however, the one that was the best is she said, “Never let anyone get in the way between you and your dreams. You can accomplish anything as long as you put your heart and mind to it. You have to work hard, keep your grades up in school, and never lose faith.”

These words of wisdom have been ringing in my ears every day starting when I was a young girl. I took her words to heart and decided that I need to work hard at everything I do to get to where I want to be. I took her words and decided I should think of my life as climbing up a mountain. My dreams and goals are at the top and I have to climb up it. It is not easy climbing a mountain, there are steep parts, rocks that will slide right from under you, times when you will feel too tired to keep on climbing, and many challenges ahead of you. I am still in the process of climbing my mountain, but I work hard, I do not let anyone get in the way of my dreams, I have accomplished many things when I did put my heart and mind into it, I have kept my grades up in school, and I have never lost faith.

If my grandma did not teach me that lesson then I would not have accomplished everything I did. A couple of years ago I came upon a tough part in climbing up my mountain. I got a head injury and had amnesia. I forgot many things and my grades in school dropped to F’s, but I took her words into practice and I worked harder than I ever did before, I spent hours of studying after school every night to remember and keep my grades up. I never gave up on my goals and in two weeks my grades went to straight A’s! That is just one of the many difficult times that came upon me. My grandma taught me a good lesson and I will never forget it and keep on climbing my mountain to my dreams.
