Enlighten Your Education by Niken - April 2018 Scholarship Essay
#Experience
We have to educate not the mind but also the heart. Educating the heart derives from the trunk of experiences. The branches serve as a contribution of all experiential knowledge. One obtains knowledge through academics and childhood upbringing: manners, maturity, and morals. Besides listening and note taking, education is best taught through exploring various ideas to broaden our horizons. An education is an opportunity for us to enhance our perspective of the outside world and ourselves.
Education is about encouraging our minds to think critically in order to look at something in a different way. Many schooling systems teach every person to think the same way through lectures. By thinking the same way, society cannot expand their horizons. However, experiences are a quality of education that creates a diverse education, one filled with different interpretations of subjects. The many experiences I have encountered have shaped my education. Enrolling in Humanities, a class focused on cultivating an accepting individual, has allowed me to step over the fence of technology and into a garden of exploration. This class has given me the opportunity to experience different cultures and study art, religion, and philosophy by attending museums and religious sectors. With this real world experience, Humanities has not only solidified my critical and creative thinking skills, but also taught to communicate concisely with written and spoken words. Experiencing gives us a hand-on view on certain subjects rather than sitting through a lecture to learn them. Our education is enhanced by exploration, which is evident in my study of humanities.
Making and growing from a mistake fabricates education. But the important outcome is educating society to not repeat them. One must contribute their experience to the world in order to teach others. The beauty of education is to provide the skills needed to create an impact within society and make a difference in someone’s life. With education from experience comes great responsibly to inform our society about situations and events in the world. As a result, people become more motivated to explore and share their knowledge to others. Though most people say education is achieved when receiving a degree, I believe education is achieved when one has benefitted the community to the extent of leaving a smile on people’s faces.
Education does not start at school. It starts at home; the moment we experience of learning how to talk and walk. Then using our voices and actions to benefit society. Above all, one is able to cultivate their garden of exploration, in order for their tree of experience to grow and obtain the fruit of education to share with others.
