Has Technology Ever Surprised You? by Niharika - January 2020 Scholarship Essay
Technology Surprised Me
Did technology ever surprised you? Guess what, It did for me for the first time in my life. It was three in the noon, the wind howls through the trees, “hohoho” was how I was shivering. “Students! you have a surprise test today, will you guys keep your bags in front of the room.” Mr. Sai sir shouted like there were fifty people but literally, there were just fifteen students in the classroom and why would someone want students to put their bags in front of the room for even a small test. Mr. Sai passed the test papers as he walked over each bench. “Precisely, It’s so unfair to have a surprise test right now, don’t you think so Niharika?” Swetha was muttering like a cute rabbit. “Yea, and that’s the speciality of a surprise test you know.” I mumble at her. A week later, Mr. Sai orally yelled our scores, which were out of ten marks and guess what, nobody got no more than five points. Everyone looked like it was the end of the world, but it wasn’t.
Mr. Sai came up with this survey called “How You Want To Be You” which was interesting. “What is it that makes you to show interest on studies?” Mr. Sai wrote it on the board. Yes, you heard it right, you might of guessed that the survey was on our school ipads or laptops or whatever the device that school gave us. Unfortunately, We had no devices except the fact that few students had their cell phones. “I need more of a watching studies, you know what I mean sir?” Govind stood up and said it out loud without any fear. That response surprised me because that was what I kind of wanted too. “I would like to play, listen and watch in studies, sir.” I said it for the first time out loud because I thought it was time for me to share my thoughts to him. “Tring..Tring” the bell rings and everyone leaves. The next day, he brought a projector and a laptop, he showed us several videos of life skills lessons, he also taught us a game in a website which was related to our lesson and few pictures on the internet which were really inspiring. We spent a couple hours on that. After a while “Here’s your actual test folks” Mr. Sai sir as usually passed the test papers. “You know what, I’m so confident that I will get ninety percent or above on this test. How about you Niharika?” Swetha asked me as she was grabbing her pencil from her bag. “You know what, I feel the same, let’s see how it goes.” I said it with confidence and a tiny smile on me.
Habitually a week later, everyone was eagerly waiting for the scores to be heard. I wasn’t really that curious about it because I believe in myself that I did well. Here comes Mr. Sai Sir, he pulls the test papers out from his white file and as usual he says it out loud and guess what, nobody got below ninety five percent which felt like we all together won the world cup. That’s the day when Mr. Sai shared his thoughts to me of how happy he was by seeing these results. He shared his thoughts to me because he knows me since I live right across his street, “Sir, It’s just because of you showing us videos, pictures, taught us paying games in websites on studies” I open mindedly said it to sir. That’s when I realized that technology changed me and my classmates to show more interest in studies which our future is on. It engaged us on studies. I realized that it really helped me to empower my knowledge on studies.
I’m very thankful to the society, Mr. Sai sir and especially the person who created the technology like internet, YouTube, useful websites and etc for us. At first, I didn’t really believe in technology at all, but now I’m very proud and happy to have technology in my life. Technology has greatly affected and impacted the way things are presented and taught in the classroom.Technology has had a tremendous impact on us when teachers use these materials to teach in our classroom. I learned that every single student in the classroom needs some kind of enjoyment in their studies and I think technology gives that enjoyment.
